Chamber Launches "NeighborWoods" Program to Green Up Jenks
9.3.2008
Jenks Express, September IssueJenks has great neighborhoods and the Community Development Committee (CDC) of the Jenks Chamber of Commerce want to help make them even better and more beautiful.
The Committee is set to launch "NeighborWoods," a program to facilitate and encourage the planting of trees on homesteads as well as flowering and greening up overall in Jenks yards. The NeighborWoods program improves both the environment and the social fabric of neighborhoods, spurring community development and supporting healthier, livable communities.
The Chamber’s CDC is planning several events to start involving Jenks residents in this effort. The campaign will commence with a booth at “Art on Main” in Downtown Jenks on October 11th. Five to six foot oak trees donated by Southwood Nursery & Landscape will be on sale for $10 each. All proceeds will fund the “NeighborWoods” program.
“Lush, green trees that shade your yard adds more beauty to your property, increases home values, and beautifies the community,” said Annette Bowles, President of the Jenks Chamber of Commerce.
The following week on October 18th, "Tree Planting 101," an educational seminar by Certified Arborists and Foresters from Public Service Company of Oklahoma will be held at the Jenks/Glenpool Community Center at 10:30 am. Seating is limited. More information to follow.
In April 2009, another city-wide campaign will occur associated with the Jenks Herb & Plant Festival. “We suggest you to get involved by purchasing a tree for your own property or neighborhood to help transform our community,” encourages Bowles.
