The Jenks Chamber of Commerce is set to unveil an economic development action plan for Jenks on Sept. 12.
The plan was created in partnership with Community Growth Strategies and involved multiple focus groups, one-on-one sessions and a community forum.
The event will take place at 3 p.m. at The Hive, 115 S. First St., Jenks. Additionally, the chamber will host a session called “Economic Development for Community Leaders” with Dr. Ron Swager, who retired in 2015 as Senior Research Professor for the Institute for Economic Advancement at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
“This process has been a great partnership with our community leaders, business leaders and residents,” said Jenks Chamber president Josh Driskell. “We’re excited about the plan as well as the presentation from Dr. Swager.”
Driskell said the plan will lay out a strategy and tactics for growing the Jenks economy.
Swager’s presentation is designed to define what local economic development is about and the role local leaders play. Topics to be covered include the nature of community economic development, how a local economy grows, the importance of community readiness, key functions of local efforts and ways local leaders may be involved.
Speakers will include Swager, Tulsa County Commissioner Karen Keith, and Jim Fram, principal at Community Growth Strategies.
